There are so many intelligent and articulate people covering the hard-hitting
issues in our country these days, that I felt it was my duty to cover the
rather inconsequential bullshit that tends to make up the vast majority of
our lives. Actually, I'll just be griping a lot which, if you weren't aware,
doubles as a synonym for complaining, and as a descriptor for
a sharp pain in the bowels.

A Mammary of Light

Alas and alack at long last I've finished The Wheel of Time, a time I thought might never come. In fact that time came some weeks ago now and like a lot of long-anticipated things it was a touch anticlimactic. But I mean, hell, even the author didn't live to see the end so I guess there's something to be said for seeing it through. As much as books and movies and TV shows have no ending that might quite satisfy us, they still have definable endings and accessible timelines. It's something that Youtube and Facebook and all are trying to give us for our lives, even if that's not what they're really trying to give us, but the question then is what are they giving us? We've got an easy means by which to create and post video, create and post content and updates on our lives, but to what end? The end? An end? The Wheel of Time turns, assholes come and go, and so on.

And farting dehydrates dehydration, or maybe not, but it is what one Internet searcher wanted to know, and coming in just shy of the top 20 was yours truly, thanks to one of my parody efforts, penned and placed on my largely defunct parody blog. That was quite the near run-on. The internet: weird catalog of once ephemeral moments. Sure, these things are still ephemeral, but they're now accessible, which removes some of the magic. No cameras allowed has a nice ring to it.

Coming back to The Wheel of Time, for as much fun as I've made of it and myself for reading it over the years, it was a good ride. From embarrassing cover art — seriously they try damn hard to make Romance and Fantasy have the most embarrassing covers — to excessive repetition of character thought patterns and descriptions it had a nice familiarity to it. So anyway, RJ and WoT, so long, and thanks for the memories.

Friday the 13th: The Gathering Storm

Happy Friday the 13th everyone. I don't actually keep track of how frequently Fridays the 13th (Friday the 13ths?) occur, but I do know this is at least the second of 2009. Usually Friday the 13th isn't anything all that special aside from the standard triskaidekaphobia and potential launch dates for the next Jason slasher. Our last Friday the 13th takes us way back to March. So much and so little could be said to have occurred since then, but mostly I am wondering why I am writing this as if I am a shitty disc jockey.

In other news, holy fucking shit. I was browsing the library's online catalog yesterday and what should finally be available but book 12 in the mothertruckin' Wheel of Time series. All of you excited bastards can buy it here.

Cover art: amazing[ly embarrassing] as always

As someone trying to do a little writing here and there and struggling to spew out a fledgling 50,000 word novel[la], this dude makes me look like an invalid. Posthumous publication of the ending of this series is likely to hit a whopping 685,000 words. I can't wait ( I can totally wait) to sink my teeth into this. I might just wait until all three are released so that I might finally resolve what's going down with Rand Al' Thor and the boys. The Dragon, it appears, is somewhat reborn.

Speaking of dragons, or at least beasts, Lance Armstrong qualifies:

What a garage was really built for.

I would fear hitting myself in the nuts.

Looking insane...

And more insane...

Conclusion: Lance Armstrong, drug cheat or not, is like intercourse while camping:

In tents!

Lastly, it really deserves its own post (or Kellogg's or General Mills...tap that cymbal...), but I've been loving the shit out of this Encyclopedia of cereal. All of their content is amazing, but I've pegged a few favorites:

Quisp cereal

Buckwheats

• Rice Krinkles and their racist mascot So-Hi.

Just a reminder of how epic shit used to be. The ads for these cereals are miniature stories and TV series in their own right. You weren't just eating breakfast, you were eating history. Until next time...

I Had a Point

When I opened up this browser window I had every intention of writing something in particular. Unfortunately, by the time I got back to it, I forgot what that was. So, for posterity I'll just reference a couple of today's news events and chide myself for being forgetful.

It turns out rocker Prince, the famed artist whose nuts get licked pretty regularly by other musical artists, is in the market for a hip replacement. I didn't even know he was fifty, or 5'3" for that matter, let alone in need of a hip replacement. Make no mistake though, I am not hating on Prince. He's a fairly righteous dude with some pretty sweet songs and his performance at the Superbowl last year was probably about the best halftime show I watched, not that that says much. So best wishes Prince. Get well soon.

Also, in the realm of dorkdom, seems that JK Rowling — creator of Harry Potter in the event the name escapes you — has blocked the publication of the Harry Pottery Dorktionary. Copyright on that dorktionary jazz. Honestly I found that article slightly confusing. I couldn't really grasp certain particulars about the nature of the copyright infringement, but that probably had to do with my state of mind while reading it. The gist of it is JK Rowling and, more to the point Warner Brothers who seems to have an awfully large stake in Rowling's intellectual property ownership, doesn't want some n00b cashing in on the immensely profitable new nerd dialect she has created. It actually seems reasonable, but I can't help thinking they just need to open up the dialogue. And if you think I am making fun of Harry Potter fans (only specific ones that I can point out if you ever see me on the street) with all this nerd and dork talk, I probably am, but remember, I've read the entire Wheel of Time Series.

Anyway, that's enough news for the moment as I close with one of my favorite videos of all time. Trust me, if these Michael Owen highlights to the tune of New Order don't give your shivers you aren't human. I was tempted to use one of my favorite terms of the moment there: automaton. Great word. Cheers folks.
